Dr. Pavitra Patnaik got selected for MBBS at Grant Medical College, Mumbai, through All India Medical Entrance Exam in 1991. An Alumni of J.J. Hospital Grant Medical College Mumbai , Dr. Patnaik completed M.B.B.S. from there, and got selected for M.S. General Surgery and received the degree in Masters of Surgery from B.Y.L. Nair Charitable Hospital and Topiwala National Medical College, Mumbai.
In 2003, He topped the entrance exam at SRMC Chennai and got selected for M.Ch. Neurosurgery under Professor Damodar Rout and Prof. K.Ganesh , who are the pioneers and stalwarts of Vascular & skull base Neurosurgery and spine surgery respectively.
After he was awarded the degree of M.Ch.in Neurosurgery In 2006, Dr. Patnaik was appointed as Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurosurgery at Super Speciality Hospital, Government Medical College Nagpur. No sooner did he clear the M.P.S.C.interview for Assistant Professor, he was given the responsibility of heading the Department of Neurosurgery at a very early age in 2008.
With his persistent and dedicated hard work, Dr.Patnaik single-handedly managed the clinical and administrative work.
He not only developed and upgraded Neurosurgery Department but took it to a different level altogether. His vast experience includes several complex brain and spine operations like Aneurysm clipping, AVM excision, Skull base tumors, Microvascular Decompression for Trigeminal/Glossopharyngeal Neuralgia, Craniovertebral junction anomalies surgery with fixation, Pediatric Neurosurgery including V.P. Shunts, Meningoencephalocele (cranial/spinal) repair, Craniosynostosis, Spinal cord tumors, Spinal dysraphism, and Diastematomyelia. Dr. Patnaik is not only known for excellent brain tumor operations, he is probably one of the best Spine surgeons in this region as well.
He excels in Cervical and Lumbar Microdiscectomies and cervical, thoracic, and lumbar fixation surgeries. His dedicated work has saved several lives and prevented many complications & disabilities.
He trained nearly 50 surgery residents from 2006 to 2014; almost half of them got inspired and have become Neurosurgeons from various medical colleges all across the country.
After working as department head for 8 years at superspeciality hospital GMC Nagpur, Dr. Patnaik was promoted to J.J. Hospital & Grant Medical College, Mumbai as Associate Professor in the Department of Neurosurgery in 2014. Later In 2017, he was given the responsibility as Head of the Department of Neurotrauma at Trauma Center, GMC Nagpur.
Here he not only trained several Neurosurgeons under him but also streamlined the care offered to head injury patients, bringing down the overall mortality rate significantly.
In March 2020, Dr. Patnaik was again given a new challenge and responsibility. This time it was converting the Trauma Center into a COVID-19 hospital. He was appointed as the COVID In-charge and for almost 2 years he managed the Department of Neurotrauma and COVID-related administration too.
Currently Dr. Patnaik is also the Director at Kalpavruksha Hospital,Chattrapati square Nagpur, and Director of Dr. Patnaik’s Brain, Spine and Heart Care Center,Ramdaspeth Nagpur.
Dr. Patnaik has operated and supervised more than 20,000 brain and spine operations so far. He is not just ethical in his neurosurgical practice but also compassionate and full of empathy towards his patients. His positive support and optimism brings hope and smiles to his patients.
Despite keeping a busy schedule, Dr. Patnaik is a fitness enthusiast who believes in keeping himself fit with a regular workout, healthy nutrition, and lifestyle.
